thieves and swindlers and cellphones

Sometime in the far future in a certain city, corruption exists. Phones that produce solid holograms also exist. The result is an underground network of thieves-for-hire, and the latest, biggest bounty is on the recovery of a particular phone.

Somewhere in the city in a certain cafe, a waiter in secret possession of the phone exists. The regular all-thief customers of the cafe also exist. The result is...?

world

(For readability/organisation's sake I'm copy-pasting some of the content from the original notes below, so there's some repeat of content here and there...)

Basically, I took Subeta's Centropolis and messed around with it. It's actually almost nothing like what's on the site, save for a number of the landmarks. I don't know if I'll eventually use them!

The deal is that it's really a city of vice. Mostly gambling- they have lots of casinos. If you've ever been to places like Macau, you might have an idea of what it's like. On one hand you have these glamorous casinos and flashy things that tell you that you can be rich too, and on the other there are these tired streets and quiet little places.
The difference is that Centropolis doesn't even have any other tourist spots much worth visiting. It's a place you go to to gamble and be rich. It's a nice place to live in if you're a well-to-do businessman who conducts activities of dubious legality. The authorities are easily bribed.

It's actually safer than it sounds, however- the only people who are really at risk of being harmed are the big shots. Tourists generally leave intact, if only a little more bored as compared to when they arrived. (It's not worth the money to go shopping, and there's not many tourist spots aside from the casinos...)

initial notes

Okay, the world post for real.
Noting down stuff as I get them done for Artslam 2010.

Previous plot post here, disorganised messy thing.

centropolis

I..really wanted to see that with this journal layout.

I shouldn't ever attempt to write tourist brochures, pfft.
